At Janitorial Express we have a fantastic, dedicated team working to provide our customers with a great service and we believe they should be paid properly for their hard work. We are therefore very happy to announce that we are now an accredited living wage employer!
We know it can be a real struggle for many people to survive on low wages and the stresses that come with this are highly detrimental to a person’s health. Becoming a living wage employer means we can ensure our staff are given the opportunity to work comfortably with fewer financial worries. We do our best to give our staff a positive working environment and this is heavily influenced by how much they are paid. This decision was therefore a no-brainer as in our opinion happy employee's equal happy customers!
Additionally, offering a higher wage means staff can come to work feeling well rested and ready to take on the day. Previous case studies conducted by the Living Wage foundation found employers observed an increase in the quality of work from employees as well as a 25% decrease in absenteeism. So, to us, joining this scheme is not only a very exciting venture but a necessary reward to our staff for their dedication to the company.
So what does it all mean?
The London living wage is an hourly rate set independently which can be offered voluntarily by employers to their employees. The London Living Wage is £9.40 an hour, as opposed to the national minimum wage of £6.70 (21-24 years of age) and £7.20 (25+ years of age). This amount has been suggested following calculation of the cost of living in London and is updated annually. The foundation has public backing from both the Prime Minister and the Lead of the Opposition and aims to provide employees with enough pay to support themselves and potentially their families.
The living wage foundation offers accreditation to employers paying the living wage or those who have agreed to a timetable of action. They also provide advice and support to these employers while providing a forum that allows company's to spread the 'Living Wage' word. Company's accredited with the living wage also take part in a 'living wage week' in the month of November which allows commitment to the foundation to be celebrated. All sorts of events and fund raising activities take place during this week to increase awareness of the cause- so definitely something to look forward to!
We are delighted to be able to offer our employees a great rate of pay and look forward to hearing about the changes this has made to their every-day lives.
